Field Closure Protocol

Use of the fields following or during heavy rains is very damaging to the ongoing condition of the fields and may mandate temporary closure. Please note this policy addresses the event of comprehensive field closure due to excessive rain. Decisions made by referees for individual game field conditions are mandated by the league directives.

Heavy rains, and the prediction for ongoing rain, are the triggers for closing fields. Significant standing puddles, sodden or spongy conditions on stepping on the field will be the indicators for closure. Every effort will be made to make the decision at least 4 hours prior to the next scheduled field use, in order that this decision be communicated to all involved.

The Soccer Chelsea Field Co-ordinator is responsible for initiating the decision to close the fields. This responsibility may be delegated to the Technical Director or President. If these decision makers are not able to visualize the fields, the Chelsea Municipality Chief Maintenance may be contacted to verify the state of the fields.

Once the decision is made, the following communication will be co-ordinated by the Field Co-ordinator (president/technical director). Involved teams will be identified by accessing the field schedule (field scheduler). The following email message will be sent to the following individuals:

Due to recent weather conditions (rainfall) all soccer fields are closed. Use of these facilities will resume on ___________ beginning at 4:00 pm (weather permitting).
